I Tried the MEIDU 3-in-1 Hair Dye Shampoo — My Brutally Honest Review

By Nora Jan15,2026

I bought the Meidu 3-in-1 hair dye shampoo, hoping for a quick, mess-free way to touch up my grays… but the experience ended up being more mixed than I expected.

What Is the MEIDU 3-in-1 Hair Dye Shampoo?

MEIDU 3-in-1 Hair Dye Shampoo is a combined shampoo, conditioner, and hair color product marketed as an easy, at-home gray coverage solution. It claims to dye your hair in minutes, leave it soft and shiny, and last for several weeks… all without the usual mess of boxed dyes.

Why I Bought It

I didn’t want to deal with gloves, bowls, mixing, or sectioning. I just wanted something I could squeeze out, rub in during a shower, and rinse out. The “covers grays in 10 minutes” promise definitely reeled me in.

My Experience Using It

When it arrived, my first thought was that the bottle looked smaller than expected, but I decided to stay positive. The first time I used it, the texture felt like a regular shampoo, but thicker and slightly sticky. The scent was surprisingly strong, almost perfumy, and it clung to my hands even after I rinsed.

While applying it, I immediately noticed that it stained my palms, which annoyed me because the product claims you can use it without gloves. I left it in for the recommended time and rinsed, and at first glance, my hair did look darker and shinier. I was actually relieved thinking, “Okay, maybe it works.”

But by the next morning, some of the grays were already peeking through. After the second use, I noticed uneven patches… some areas looked almost too dark while others barely changed. The color also transferred onto my pillowcase the first night, which was frustrating.

Over the next few days, the dye faded much faster than expected. Whatever coverage I did get barely lasted a week. The conditioner part didn’t impress me either, as my hair felt a little coated but not deeply moisturized.

Overall, using it wasn’t a total disaster, but it felt like too much effort for such short-lived results.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Quick and convenient
  • Darkens hair temporarily
  • Slight shine after rinsing

Cons

  • Very short-lasting
  • Patchy gray coverage
  • Strong fragrance
  • Stains hands and fabrics
  • Bottle runs out fast

Product Claims vs. Reality

  • Claim: Covers grays in minutes – Only partially true; coverage is patchy.
  • Claim: No gloves needed – False. It stains hands.
  • Claim: Long-lasting color – Definitely not. Most people report 3–7 days max.
  • Claim: Conditions and nourishes hair – Minimal conditioning effect.

Is It a Scam?

Not an outright scam, but definitely overhyped. The marketing makes it sound like a long-lasting dye alternative, but real-world results, even mine, don’t match the promises.

Ingredient Breakdown

The formula contains standard surfactants, temporary dyes, silicone-based conditioners, and fragrance. Nothing harmful jumps out, but nothing here explains “weeks of coverage” either. It’s more like a tinted wash than an actual dye.

How to Use

Apply to wet hair like a shampoo, massage thoroughly (especially around gray-prone areas), leave for 10–15 minutes, then rinse. Use gloves, even if the brand pretends you won’t need them.

Alternatives to Consider

  • Clairol Root Touch-Up Permanent Hair Color
  • L’Oréal Magic Root Rescue
  • eSalon Custom Color Kit
  • Madison Reed Radiant Hair Color Kit

Conclusion — Would I Recommend It?

Personally, no. It’s convenient, but the results fade too quickly to justify the price or effort. If you need something temporary for a day or two, it’s fine. But for actual gray coverage? Go for a proper root touch-up dye instead.
