Is the Dreame PM20 Air Purifier Actually Good? My Honest Review

By Nora Mar12,2026

I didn’t think much about air purifiers until I started noticing how stuffy indoor air can feel sometimes, especially after cooking, cleaning, or just spending a long day indoors.

That curiosity is what led me to the Dreame AirPursue PM20, a purifier that promises more than just filtering air. According to the brand, it can detect where you are in the room and direct clean air toward you, while also acting as a heater and fan.

It sounded impressive… but also a bit gimmicky. So I looked deeper into how it actually performs in real homes.

What is the Dreame AirPursue PM20 Smart Air Purifier?

The Dreame AirPursue PM20 is a large smart air purifier designed for big spaces, combining air purification, heating, and fan cooling in one appliance. It uses a four-layer filtration system with an H13 HEPA filter and a carbon layer to capture pollutants like dust, pollen, smoke, and VOC gases. The purifier can clean spaces of around 1,883 sq ft in about 15 minutes and up to 7,534 sq ft within an hour, depending on airflow settings.

It also includes sensors that monitor air quality in real time and automatically adjust the fan speed when pollution levels rise.

Why I Tried It

I was mainly interested in the PM20 because it seemed like an all-in-one device. Instead of having a purifier, a fan, and a small heater cluttering the room, this one machine promised to do all three. The idea of having something that automatically monitors air quality and adjusts itself without constant tweaking sounded convenient.

My Experience Using It

Setting up the purifier was pretty straightforward. Once it was plugged in and turned on, the screen immediately started displaying air quality data. Watching the numbers change in real time was oddly satisfying… it gave the impression that the purifier was actively working rather than just quietly humming in the corner.

What I noticed first was the amount of airflow the machine produces. Unlike small desktop purifiers that barely move air, the PM20 pushes a noticeable stream across the room. When it’s running in auto mode, you can actually feel the difference after a while… the air just feels fresher and less stale.

The feature that caught my attention most was the motion-tracking airflow. When someone moves around the room, the purifier adjusts the direction of airflow toward that area. It’s a unique concept and honestly feels a little futuristic the first time you see it happen. The idea is that instead of just purifying the air somewhere in the room, it actively pushes clean air toward the people in the space.

That said, I also noticed that the fan function doesn’t quite replace a regular cooling fan. The airflow is there, but it’s not as strong as something designed purely for cooling. So while it works for circulation, I wouldn’t rely on it as my main fan in very hot weather.

Another thing that stood out was the size. This isn’t a small purifier you tuck behind furniture. It’s tall and fairly noticeable in the room. The design is sleek and modern, but it definitely becomes part of the room visually.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Powerful purification for large spaces
  • Smart sensors and automation
  • Can function as a purifier, heater, and fan
  • Modern design with real-time air quality display
  • Quiet operation in lower modes

Cons

  • Expensive compared to standard purifiers
  • Large and bulky device
  • Fan airflow may feel weaker than expected

How to Use

  1. Place the purifier in a central area of the room.
  2. Turn it on and allow the sensors to analyze air quality.
  3. Use Auto Mode so the purifier adjusts fan speed automatically.
  4. Clean or replace filters when the system alerts you.
  5. Use heater or fan modes depending on the season.

Alternatives to Consider

If you’re looking at smart air purifiers in a similar category, some alternatives are:

  • Windmill Smart Air Purifier
  • Miko Smart True HEPA Air Purifier
  • Mila Smart Air Purifier

Conclusion — Would I Recommend It?

The Dreame AirPursue PM20 Smart Air Purifier is clearly designed as a high-end smart appliance rather than a simple air purifier.

It brings together strong filtration, sensors, automation, and multi-function features in one device. For large homes or open living spaces, that combination can make it very appealing.

That said, the price is definitely on the higher side, and the extra features (like motion-tracking airflow) may feel more like luxury add-ons than necessities.
