I Tried DIYSTAR™ Root Activator Shampoo — Here’s My Honest Review

By Nora Jun5,2025

My hair had been thinning gradually, nothing dramatic, just more strands on the floor and a weaker ponytail. I wanted something simple that might help slow the shedding, so when I came across Diystar Root Activator Shampoo with its “root awakening” claims, I figured I’d give it a shot.

What It Is

Diystar Root Activator Shampoo is marketed as a botanical formula meant to stimulate dormant hair follicles and reduce shedding. It includes ingredients like ginger, ginseng, and polygonum multiflorum, which are common in scalp and hair care. The brand promises improved thickness, less hair fall, and even new growth over time.

Why I Tried It

I was drawn in by the idea of reviving thinning areas without committing to harsh treatments or expensive serums. The product was affordable, easy to find, and seemed like a low-risk experiment.

My Experience Using It

The shampoo has a light herbal scent and gives a cool, tingling sensation, which made my scalp feel refreshed after each wash. It lathered well and left my hair feeling soft and clean.

By week three, I noticed a bit less hair in the drain and some improvement in how full my roots looked. That said, there wasn’t any real regrowth or dramatic thickening. The results were subtle, more like a good scalp cleanser than a follicle miracle.

I used it consistently for about five weeks. It didn’t cause irritation or buildup, but the impact plateaued quickly. I eventually started alternating it with my regular shampoo just to finish the bottle.

Pros

  • Refreshing scalp feel
  • Mild herbal scent
  • Slight reduction in shedding
  • Gentle on the hair

Cons

  • No visible new growth
  • Exaggerated claims
  • Feels like a basic shampoo with fancy branding

Is It a Scam?

Not exactly, but it’s overhyped. It works fine as a shampoo but fails to deliver on its bigger promises. Most customer reviews seem to agree: pleasant to use, but not the game-changer it claims to be.

Where to Buy & Price

Available on Amazon, Temu, and similar sites for around $20. Some listings vary, so make sure you’re buying from a legit seller.

Alternatives

  • Nioxin System 2 Kit
  • Bondi Boost Hair Growth Shampoo
  • Pura D’Or Anti-Hair Thinning Shampoo
  • Vegamour GRO Hair Serum

Conclusion – Would I Recommend It?

Not really. It’s fine if you just want a nice-feeling shampoo with a mild herbal vibe, but don’t expect real regrowth or thickening. For me, it was a temporary experiment, not a repurchase. I’ve moved on to more proven options.
