I Tried Tan-Luxe Tanning Drops – Are They Really Worth the Hype? Find Out In My Honest Review!

By Nora Jun6,2025

Tan-Luxe offers a range of self-tanning drops designed to provide a customizable, natural-looking glow. i saw it in a post on Facebook, and intrigued, I decided to buy it. I’ll be sharing my experience with this product and helping you decide if it’s worth buying or not.

What It The Tan-Luxe Tanning Drops?

Tan-Luxe Tanning Drops are customizable self-tanners you mix with your favorite moisturizer to get a “buildable” natural-looking glow. They come in different formulas for face and body, and you’re supposed to control how deep your tan gets by adjusting the number of drops you add. The idea is: no streaks, no bad smell, no orange tones, just a believable, healthy tan without the UV damage.

Why I Tried It

I’ve always been cautious about self-tanners because of past disasters, streaks, weird smells, and that dreaded orange tint. But with summer creeping up and my skin looking dull, I wanted something subtle and foolproof. I saw rave reviews about Tan-Luxe, especially the Face drops, and figured if they really were as customizable and natural-looking as claimed, it might finally be a game-changer.

My Experience Using It

I started with the Tan-Luxe “The Face” drops in Light/Medium and mixed two drops with my regular night cream. The consistency blended easily and didn’t alter the feel of my moisturizer, which was nice. The scent? Surprisingly mild at first, but as it developed, that faint self-tanner smell crept in, nothing unbearable, but still noticeable. By morning, my skin had a slight golden glow, not streaky or blotchy, just… warmer.

Encouraged, I kept using it every few nights and increased to three drops. I did start noticing some minor patchiness around my hairline and eyebrows, probably from not blending well enough. Lesson learned: thorough blending matters.

I also tried “The Body” drops with my lotion, and while the tan looked decent on most areas, it didn’t develop quite as evenly on dry spots like knees and ankles, even after exfoliating. I’d say it gave me a healthy tint but not the dramatic sun-kissed glow I expected from the price tag.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Customizable tint
  • Easy to mix with existing skincare
  • Doesn’t feel heavy or greasy
  • Gradual and subtle results

Cons

  • Pricey for what you get
  • Still has that classic tanner smell during development
  • Can be patchy on dry skin if not applied carefully
  • Results fade within a few days

Is It a Scam?

No, Tan-Luxe isn’t a scam. It’s a legit product with a loyal following and decent formulation. But I think it’s slightly overhyped. The marketing gives the impression that it’s flawless and foolproof, but you still need to exfoliate, blend well, and reapply regularly to maintain results. If you’re expecting a salon-quality tan from a couple drops, you might be disappointed.

Where to Buy & Price

You can find Tan-Luxe on their official website, Sephora, Amazon, and other beauty retailers.
Prices range from:

  • The Face Drops: around $49
  • The Body Drops: around $59

Not cheap, especially if you’re using them often.

Alternatives

  • Isle of Paradise Self-Tanning Drops
  • The Skinny Confidential Face Tanning Drops
  • Bondi Sands Pure Self Tanning Drops
  • St. Tropez Self Tan Purity Bronzing Water

Conclusion: Would I Recommend It?

Honestly? Maybe. If you have the budget and want a low-maintenance glow, Tan-Luxe is a solid option. But if you’re expecting a flawless, vacation-like tan with zero effort, it might under-deliver. For me, it was decent, but not revolutionary. I’ll keep it for those days I want a little color boost, but I’m still on the hunt for something that truly wows me.
