Is Blinky Bot Worth the Hype? I Tried It, and Here’s My Honest Review

By Nora Jun25,2025

I didn’t set out looking for a tiny robot to patrol my living room, but the ads were everywhere. Rolling, blinking, talking, promising to “keep watch” while I was away. It looked like something between a kid’s toy and a security gadget, and even though I rolled my eyes at the animated video showing it following pets around and detecting “movement threats,” I caved. I hit checkout, more curious than convinced.

What Is the Blinky Bot?

According to the brand, Blinky Bot is a compact mobile security device with dual cameras, night vision, app control, and two-way audio. It’s supposed to move around your home, send you alerts, let you speak through it, and even play with your pets. The idea is that it’s more dynamic than a typical home security cam, you’re not stuck with a single angle, and you can steer it where you need.

Why I Tried It

I wanted something more flexible than a wall-mounted camera, something I could use to check different parts of the room, especially when I was out or stuck working late. And honestly, part of me just liked the idea of being able to chase my dog around with a robot while I was away. It seemed like a fun mix of practical and silly, and if it actually worked, even better.

My Experience Using It

When the Blinky Bot arrived, it looked exactly like it did in the ads, small, plasticky, and cute in a way that makes you want to name it. The setup was straightforward. I downloaded the app, paired it with Wi-Fi, and within minutes I was steering it around my living room like a remote-controlled car.

At first, I was impressed. The video feed was decent, especially in well-lit spaces, and the night vision kicked in automatically when it got dark. I spoke through the two-way audio just to test it, and it actually startled my dog, who then cautiously followed it around. So yes, it got his attention.

But after the novelty wore off, the cracks started to show. The battery life was way shorter than I expected. I barely got two hours of movement before it needed a recharge, and that’s with minimal use. The wheels struggled on anything that wasn’t a smooth floor, rugs, uneven tiles, and any kind of threshold became a challenge. I found myself manually picking it up and repositioning it more than once.

And then there was the app. When I was connected over Wi-Fi at home, it was responsive enough. But the moment I tried to control it remotely, the lag became obvious. Sometimes it would ignore commands altogether or freeze mid-movement, which defeated the whole purpose of having a mobile cam I could operate from outside the house.

Over time, I found myself using it less and less. It felt more like a novelty than something dependable. It wasn’t terrible, but it didn’t feel finished either, like the kind of product that’s more about the concept than actual long-term performance.

Pros

  • Easy to set up and use
  • Fun for pet owners or casual monitoring
  • Night vision and camera feed are decent
  • Two-way audio works well in quiet spaces
  • App control adds novelty and flexibility

Cons

  • Short battery life, needs frequent charging
  • Struggles with rugs or uneven floors
  • Remote control lags when not on same Wi-Fi
  • Doesn’t feel durable or professionally made
  • No consistent brand or centralized support

Is Blinky Bot a Scam?

No, not in the literal sense. It does function. It rolls around, streams video, and has two-way audio. But it’s definitely one of those products that leans heavily on presentation. The name “Blinky Bot” and all the branding makes it seem smarter and more capable than it really is. If you go in expecting a security solution or advanced tech, you’ll probably be disappointed. If you go in knowing it’s a cute, basic gadget with some limitations, it’s not the worst buy.

Where to Buy and Price Point

I got mine for $64 USD from what looked like a clean, legitimate website. But I’ve since seen it pop up on other sites under slightly different names and with different pricing. Some versions are over $80, others are on sale for under $50, and none of them seem to have a clear brand behind them. I didn’t see it in big-box stores, so buying online seems to be the only option, and the return policies vary widely depending on the seller.

Alternatives

  • Wyze Cam Pan v2
  • Eufy Indoor Cam 2K
  • Kasa Smart Security Camera

Conclusion: Would I Recommend It?

Only if you’re buying it for fun, not function. The Blinky Bot is more of a toy with a camera than a true home security solution. It’s entertaining for a few days, especially if you have pets or kids, but the short battery life, navigation issues, and app lag make it hard to take it seriously. I wouldn’t call it a complete waste, but I wouldn’t call it worth the hype either. It’s a maybe at best, and only if you’re prepared to treat it like a novelty.
