Is Mad Xtreme APC Worth Your Money? Real & Honest User Review

By Nora Sep26,2025

A while back, I noticed my car’s interior mats, engine bay, and kitchen surfaces getting grimy and thought: I need something strong but workable. When I saw the Mad Xtreme APC degreaser advertised as “heavy duty,” “safe on interiors and exteriors,” and “trusted by pros,” I felt hopeful. Could this be the cleaner that actually handles tough jobs without needing 10 different sprays? I bought it and here’s how that went for me.

What Is the Mad Xtreme APC Degreaser?

Mad Xtreme APC is marketed as a heavy-duty all-purpose cleaner / degreaser. The product is meant to cut through grease, oil, grime, old stains in car upholstery, engine parts, carpets, and more. The brand says you can dilute it for lighter jobs, use it full strength for tougher messes, and that it won’t damage surfaces if used properly. The label claims it works “interior & exterior,” on plastic, metal, fabric, etc.

Why I Tried It

I bought it hoping to simplify my cleaning supplies: one product for car details, kitchen buildup, greasy ventilator filters, even stovetop spots. I was especially annoyed by products that either smell too harsh, damage plastics, or just don’t cut through grease well. The promise of a “one and done” degreaser was appealing: clean engine bay, clean seats, clean kitchen without buying 3-4 different sprays.

My Experience Using It

When I first tried it, I sprayed the APC on a greasy engine cover, waiting a few minutes, then wiped it off. To my relief, it did lift much of the oil and grime… better than many standard cleaners I’d used before. That initial “wow” moment where you see the surface look closer to “factory clean” was there, which got me excited.

But as I used it more, especially on interior fabrics and plastic trim, some of the problems showed up. On fabric seats with old stains, the cleaner needed more scrubbing, more dwell time, more rinsing. It didn’t always dissolve old, caked stains like baked-on spills with ease. On plastic trim, if left too long, there was slight fading or dullness in some cases (though I was pushing its limits). Also, the spray nozzle was uneven: areas nearer the nozzle got heavy spray; further away got weak mist. It made me use more product than I expected.

Another frustration was about volume vs price. I thought I was buying a large bottle because of some ads, but what arrived was much smaller. That makes the cost per clean higher than I initially calculated. Also, the strong smell of full strength (though tolerable) was unpleasant in closed spaces unless windows were open.

On the bright side, for tasks like cleaning grill racks, metal parts, car wheels, and engine blocks, it really delivered: grime came off, metal looked more “true tone,” not dull or coated. And when diluted, for light-duty jobs like cleaning plastic panels, vinyl, or kitchen counters, it worked decently without visible damage if wiped off quickly.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Strong degreasing power on metal, engine parts, wheels, etc.
  • Works well on tough, greasy grime when used properly.
  • Versatile: can dilute for lighter tasks.
  • Helps reduce need for multiple specialty cleaners if used carefully.

Cons

  • Doesn’t always live up to “all-purpose” claims, especially on fabrics or delicate plastics.
  • Spray nozzle / distribution uneven, wasteful in some cases.
  • Strong smell; ventilation needed.
  • Product amount vs what one expects from marketing is misleading.
  • Risk of surface dulling/fading if left too long or not rinsed properly.

Is It a Scam?

I don’t believe it is a full scam, i.e., it does clean and degrease when used properly, but there is misleading marketing. The “all-purpose,” “one product does everything,” “trusted by pros” language tends to overpromise, especially for fabrics or delicate materials. Some listing images, sizes, or claims seem exaggerated. So, not a scam exactly, but buyer beware: check what you’re getting, and don’t expect miracles everywhere.

Alternatives

  • Chemical Guys APC (All Purpose Cleaner)
  • Meguiar’s APC
  • 3D Orange Degreaser
  • Green Star APC

Conclusion: Would I Recommend It?

Yes, but conditionally. If you need a strong degreaser for exteriors, greasy parts, wheels, engine covers, etc., Mad Xtreme APC is useful and can replace several cleaners. If your tasks include delicate interior surfaces, fabric, plastic trim, or if you’re sensitive to smells, it may disappoint or require extra care. For me, I keep it in my cleaning arsenal, but I use it selectively, not for everyday light cleaning.
