I picked up Odele Hair Oil because I wanted something light but nourishing, not the heavy, greasy oils that make my ends slick and flat. I hoped this would tame frizz, add shine, and feel “clean” enough to use daily. After trying it, I’m impressed in some ways … but there are definitely trade-offs.

What Is the Odele Hair Oil?
This is a lightweight, plant-based hair oil from Odele, designed to smooth frizz, boost shine, and soften strands. It combines oils like camellia, baobab, and argan, and comes in a small, concentrated bottle so you can apply just a little. According to Odele, it’s ideal for medium to coarse hair types, but the formula is light enough not to feel greasy when used properly.
Why I Tried It
My ends were dry and frizzy, especially on humid days, and I didn’t want to overdo with heavy creams. I was also drawn to the affordable price and the “cleaner” ingredients list… no parabens or weird synthetics, and the scent was reportedly soft and gender-neutral.
My Experience Using It
From the first pump, the oil felt very lightweight. You don’t need much… just a small amount on damp or dry hair (avoiding the roots) goes a long way. When I applied it, my hair felt smoother and looked shinier, particularly on the mid-lengths and ends. But it didn’t feel like a heavy, oily seal… more like a soft gloss.
On humid days, I noticed a real difference: frizz was more controlled, and my hair’s surface felt softer. That said, the oil doesn’t completely eliminate flyaways, it reduces them, but doesn’t erase them. Also, the application isn’t as “silky pour” as more expensive oils, as it’s slightly thinner, which means you have to be mindful of how much you pump, especially to avoid buildup.
One weird quirk: after a while, I sensed a slight “old cooking oil” smell in my hair, especially after I used a few pumps. It’s subtle, but noticeable if you sniff near your ends. Also, the pump dispenser on mine occasionally got stuck or failed to deliver a consistent amount, which frustrated me mid-use.
Pros & Cons
Cons
- Very lightweight formula… doesn’t feel greasy or heavy
- Nourishing but not overwhelming. It tames frizz and increases shine
- Has good plant oils (argan, camellia, baobab) for real hair benefits
- Affordable
Cons
- Light effect, may not control very stubborn frizz or thick coarse hair fully
- Slight risk of greasiness if too much is used or for fine hair
- Inconsistent pump dispensing on my bottle
- Scent feels off. Mild but can feel “cooking oil”-ish
Ingredient Breakdown
Looking at the INCI: the base is sunflower seed oil, followed by a light alkane solvent, then camellia seed oil, baobab oil, argan oil, plus rice bran extract and rosemary leaf extract.
- Camellia and baobab are “dry” oils… they absorb more cleanly than heavier fats, which explains the lightweight feel.
- Rosemary extract gives some antioxidant and soothing benefits.
- The natural fragrance is from essential oil–type notes: oakmoss, ylang ylang, cucumber.
Is It a Scam?
No… I don’t believe this is a scam. Odele is transparent about its ingredients, sells this oil through legit retailers (Target, its own site), and the formula is fairly common in “clean beauty” oils. That said, it’s not a miracle potion. If you’re expecting deep repair or “hair transformation,” you may be disappointed. It’s more of a finishing touch/frizz tamer than a treatment.
How to Use It
- Use 1–2 pumps to start with, but warm it between your palms.
- Apply to damp or dry hair, focusing on ends, avoiding the scalp.
- Use it as a finish. Its not ideal to layer then apply heat tools aggressively.
- For maximum benefit, avoid overusing as too much might weigh down finer strands.
Alternatives to Consider
If this doesn’t quite hit the mark, here are some similar hair oils:
- Moroccanoil Treatment Light
- Verb Ghost Oil
- The Ordinary Multi-Peptide + HA Serum
Conclusion — Would I Recommend It?
Yes, but with realistic expectations. If you want a light, affordable, clean oil to boost shine, tame frizz, and nourish ends, this is a strong pick. It’s not going to fix severe split ends or make your hair super slick, but it does improve texture nicely for the price.
Would I buy it again? Probably, it’s effective enough for my use. Would I recommend it? Yes… to someone who wants a low-drama, everyday hair oil that doesn’t feel like a greasy serum.
