Is LifeSmart 4-Person Plug & Play Hot Tub Worth It: My Honest Review

By Nora May13,2026

I bought the LifeSmart 4-Person Plug & Play hot tub fully expecting it to become one of those “looked exciting online, barely used in real life” purchases.

Because let’s be honest, a lot of backyard relaxation products sound amazing in theory until you actually have to maintain them.

But after using this for a while, I ended up understanding why people get weirdly attached to having a hot tub at home.

What is the LifeSmart Square Hot Tub?

The LifeSmart 4-Person Plug & Play Square Hot Tub is a compact home spa designed for smaller patios, decks, or backyards.

Unlike larger hardwired hot tubs, this one is designed to plug directly into a standard outlet, which is honestly one of the biggest reasons people buy it in the first place.

It comes with:

  • seating for up to four people
  • hydrotherapy jets
  • a built-in heater
  • water filtration system
  • and LED controls depending on the model version

Basically, it’s aimed at people who want the hot tub experience without turning their backyard into a construction project.

Why I Tried It

Honestly, stress. That was the main reason. I kept seeing people talk about how relaxing hot tubs were after work, after workouts, during colder evenings, and I started realising I genuinely did not have many ways to properly unwind at home.

But I also did not want:

  • some giant luxury spa setup
  • complicated installation
  • or something that would immediately become a maintenance nightmare

The “plug and play” part was what finally convinced me. Because if I needed electricians, renovations, and a backyard redesign, I already knew I was never going to follow through.

My Experience Using It

The setup process honestly went smoother than I expected. Not “five minutes easy,” but definitely less intimidating than I had built up in my head.

The biggest thing is realising this thing still takes up more space than your brain imagines while ordering it online. Once it actually arrived, I had one of those: “Oh. This is a REAL object.” moments.

Filling it for the first time also takes patience. I think a lot of people secretly expect hot tubs to magically become hot immediately, but no. The heating process is definitely a “leave it alone and come back later” situation.

The first time I actually sat in it, though, I immediately understood the appeal. Especially at night.

There is something weirdly calming about sitting in hot water outside when the air is cooler around you. It sounds obvious, but it genuinely changes the experience.

And I honestly ended up using it more consistently than I expected. Not even in some luxury spa way, either.

Sometimes I’d just sit there for twenty minutes scrolling through my phone after a long day because it became part of my routine without me planning for it to. The jets were decent, too. Not insanely powerful “hotel spa” level or anything dramatic, but enough that my shoulders and back genuinely felt more relaxed afterwards.

Now… maintenance is the part nobody romanticises enough online.

Because yes, you absolutely do have to stay on top of:

  • water treatment
  • cleaning
  • filters
  • and balancing chemicals properly

And there were definitely moments where I thought: “I understand now why some people stop using hot tubs after the excitement phase.”

Especially if you get lazy with upkeep for too long. Another thing: four-person capacity feels slightly optimistic depending on the size of the humans involved.

Could four people technically fit? Sure. Would it feel spacious? That depends very heavily on the group.

For two people, though, I honestly think the size feels pretty comfortable.

Texture, Feel & Build Quality

The shell feels sturdier than I expected, honestly. Not ultra-luxury resort quality obviously, but not flimsy either.

The seating is comfortable enough for longer sessions, and the controls were simple enough that I didn’t feel like I needed to study a manual every time I wanted to adjust something.

The exterior cabinet also looked nicer in person than I expected from product photos online.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Easier setup than traditional hot tubs
  • Comfortable for smaller households
  • Relaxing after long days or workouts
  • Jets feel genuinely soothing
  • Fits well in smaller outdoor spaces

Cons

  • Maintenance is very real
  • Heating takes patience
  • Four adults can feel cramped
  • Takes up more space than expected
  • Ongoing upkeep costs add up over time

Is It a Scam?

No, I do not think it is a scam at all. But I do think some people buy hot tubs without realistically thinking about the maintenance side of ownership.

Because the relaxing part is real. What people conveniently skip over online is the fact that keeping water clean consistently takes effort. And if you ignore maintenance too long, the experience goes downhill pretty quickly.

That said, the actual product itself felt legitimate to me. The heating worked. The jets worked. The setup was manageable. And it delivered pretty close to the experience I expected from a compact home hot tub.

I think the biggest misunderstanding is people expecting “a luxury spa experience with zero upkeep,” which, honestly, is probably unrealistic for almost any hot tub.

How to Use

Honestly, the biggest thing is building a maintenance routine early before laziness takes over.

Regularly:

  • check water chemistry
  • clean filters
  • keep the cover on properly
  • and stay consistent with upkeep

Because once the water quality slips, fixing it becomes way more annoying than maintaining it in the first place.

Alternatives to Consider

  • Coleman SaluSpa Inflatable Hot Tub
  • Intex PureSpa models
  • Essential Hot Tubs 4-Person models

Conclusion — Would I Recommend It?

Honestly… yes, but mostly to the right person.

If you are expecting:

  • instant luxury
  • zero maintenance
  • or a massive party hot tub

Then this probably is not the experience you are imagining. But if you genuinely want a smaller home hot tub you can realistically use a few nights a week without complicated installation, I actually think this fills that role pretty well.

The biggest surprise for me was not even the jets or the heat. It was how quickly it became part of my routine. I honestly thought I’d use it heavily for two weeks and slowly forget it existed.

But somehow I kept going back to it.
