My Honest Grillbot Grill Cleaner Review: What Nobody Tells You About

By Nora Jun12,2026

A robot that cleans your grill for you? I must confess it… I was sold almost immediately.

The Grillbot sounded like one of those gadgets that would either become my favorite backyard purchase or end up forgotten in a cabinet somewhere.

Unfortunately, after using it, I realized that the idea is probably more impressive than the actual results.

What is the Grillbot Robot Grill Cleaner?

The Grillbot is an automatic grill-cleaning robot designed to scrub grill grates using rotating brushes. You place it on the grill, select a cleaning cycle, close the lid, and let it roam around while it supposedly does the dirty work for you.

Think of it as a Roomba for your barbecue.

Why I Bought It

Cleaning the grill is probably my least favourite part of grilling. I love cooking outdoors. I love eating burgers and steaks.

Scraping burnt-on grease afterward? Not so much.

So when I saw a gadget that promised to handle the cleaning for me, I figured it was worth trying. If it could save me from scrubbing with a wire brush every time, I’d happily hand over the job to a robot.

My Experience Using It

The first time I used it, I was genuinely excited. There’s something strangely entertaining about watching this little machine bump and clang its way around the grill. My family thought it was hilarious, and I’ll admit I stood there watching it far longer than necessary.

The novelty factor is definitely there. As for the cleaning itself… that’s where things became less impressive. The Grillbot did a decent job cleaning the tops of the grates. Surface debris came off fairly well, and from a distance the grill looked cleaner.

But once I looked closer, I noticed plenty of residue still hiding deeper between the bars. That’s what frustrated me most.

After letting the robot run for a full cycle, I still ended up reaching for my regular grill brush to finish the job manually. And five minutes with a traditional brush gave me better results than thirty minutes of listening to a robot clang around inside the grill.

I also discovered that the Grillbot isn’t equally compatible with every grill. On one of my smaller grills, it struggled and occasionally stopped unexpectedly. The size of the unit itself seems to make it better suited for larger cooking surfaces.

Another thing I quickly learned is that this isn’t a “set it and forget it forever” type of gadget. You still have to clean the brushes, charge the unit, and occasionally help it out if it gets stuck or misses spots.

By the end, I found myself appreciating the convenience but questioning whether it actually saved me much time.

Build Quality & Feel

The Grillbot feels solid and surprisingly heavy. It doesn’t feel like a cheap gimmick, and the removable brushes are easy enough to replace and clean. The battery life on my unit was respectable, and I had no complaints there.

The noise, however, is impossible to ignore. It sounds exactly like you’d expect a metal robot bouncing around inside a grill to sound.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Fun concept
  • Easy to use
  • Solid build quality
  • Good battery life
  • Removes surface debris reasonably well
  • Less physical effort than scrubbing everything by hand

Cons

  • Doesn’t clean deep between grill grates very well
  • Still required manual cleaning afterward
  • Full cleaning cycles take much longer than hand scrubbing
  • Large size limits compatibility with some grills
  • Surprisingly noisy
  • Feels more like an assistant than a replacement

Product Claims vs. Reality

The Grillbot does clean grills. I don’t think that’s false advertising.

The issue is that I expected “clean” to mean completely replacing manual scrubbing. For me, it didn’t.

It handled the easy stuff but struggled with deeper buildup and stubborn residue. I started viewing it less as a replacement for a grill brush and more as a helper that reduces some of the work.

Is It a Scam?

No. The Grillbot is a real product that performs the task it’s designed to perform.

I just think the marketing creates the impression that you’ll never need to scrub your grill again, and that wasn’t my experience.

Customer Feedback

Customer experiences seem surprisingly mixed. Some people absolutely love it and feel it cleans just as well as they would by hand. Others, especially those with deeper grill grates, report the same issue I noticed… the robot mainly cleans the top surfaces while leaving buildup in harder-to-reach areas.

Smaller grills also seem to create compatibility problems for some owners. After using it myself, I can understand both sides.

How to Use

I found the Grillbot worked best when I treated it as a maintenance tool rather than a deep cleaner. For light cleanup after regular grilling sessions, it performed reasonably well. For heavily soiled grates, I still preferred a traditional brush.

Alternatives to Consider

  • Kona 360 Clean Grill Brush
  • Grill Rescue Steam Cleaning Brush
  • Weber Three-Sided Grill Brush
  • Cuisinart Grill Cleaning Brush

Conclusion — Would I Recommend It?

I’m torn. Part of me loves the idea behind this thing. And honestly, watching a tiny robot clean your grill is pretty entertaining.

But entertainment and usefulness aren’t always the same thing. The biggest problem is that after a thirty-minute cleaning cycle, I often found myself doing what I would’ve done from the beginning anyway… grabbing a brush and finishing the job myself.

For some people, that extra convenience may be enough. For me, the novelty wore off faster than the grease disappeared.
