I Tried the Sovboi S61Pro Smart 4K Projector — Here’s My Honest Review

By Nora Jun13,2026

I’ve bought enough cheap projectors to know that the specifications on the box don’t always tell the whole story.

Still, the Sovboi S61Pro caught my attention. Built-in smart features, 4K support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a giant screen experience without spending premium projector money… it sounded like a pretty good deal.

After using it for a while, I came away with mixed feelings.

What is the Sovboi S61Pro Projector?

The Sovboi S61Pro is a smart projector that supports 4K video playback, offers built-in streaming capabilities, and includes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. It’s designed to provide a home theater experience without the price tag of higher-end projector brands.

Like many projectors in this category, it accepts 4K content but relies on a lower native resolution panel.

Why I Bought It

I wasn’t looking for anything fancy. I simply wanted a projector that could handle movie nights without requiring a bunch of external streaming devices and cables everywhere.

The built-in smart features were probably what sold me most. I liked the idea of turning it on and jumping straight into Netflix without having to connect anything else.

My Experience Using It

Setting it up was surprisingly easy. Within minutes, I had everything running and was watching movies on a much larger screen than my television could offer.

For nighttime viewing, I actually enjoyed the picture. Colors looked decent, the image was plenty watchable, and the overall experience felt immersive. For casual movie nights, it definitely scratched that home theater itch.

But after the excitement wore off, I started noticing some of the compromises. First, the “4K projector” wording can be misleading.

Yes, it supports 4K content, but don’t expect the kind of sharpness you’d get from a true native 4K projector costing several times more. Once I adjusted my expectations, I enjoyed it much more.

Brightness was another area where reality differed from marketing. In a dark room, I was happy. During the day, though, the experience dropped off pretty quickly. Even with curtains closed, I found myself wishing for more brightness.

The built-in speakers also fell into the “good enough” category. They worked, but pairing the projector with a Bluetooth speaker made a huge difference.

The smart system itself was convenient, although I occasionally noticed that menus weren’t always the fastest. Nothing deal-breaking, but not as smooth as using a dedicated streaming device either.

Buildy Quality & Feel

The projector feels lightweight and modern. It doesn’t feel particularly premium, but it doesn’t feel cheap either. For the price, I thought the build quality was perfectly acceptable.

I also appreciated that it didn’t take up much space and was easy to move around.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Easy setup
  • Built-in smart features are convenient
  • Great for movie nights
  • Good value for the money
  • Large screen experience without spending a fortune
  • Bluetooth connectivity

Cons

  • Not true native 4K
  • Bright rooms reduce picture quality significantly
  • Built-in speakers are average
  • Smart interface can feel a little sluggish
  • Doesn’t compete with premium projectors

Product Claims vs. Reality

I think this projector suffers from the same issue many budget projectors do. The marketing creates expectations that are a little too ambitious.

Yes, it supports 4K. No, it doesn’t look like a true 4K projector.

Yes, it can create a huge image. No, it won’t perform perfectly in bright rooms.

Is It a Scam?

No. The Sovboi S61Pro delivers the features it advertises.

My only criticism is that terms like “4K projector” can give buyers the impression that they’re getting something closer to a premium home theatre experience than they actually are.

Customer Feedback

Most people seem pleased with the value they receive for the money.

The reviews I found often praise the large image size, ease of setup, and built-in smart features. The most common complaints tend to involve brightness limitations, average speakers, and expectations surrounding the “4K” marketing.

That pretty much mirrored my own experience.

How to Use

I got the best experience by using it at night, connecting an external speaker, and keeping my expectations realistic.

This is the type of projector that performs best when you treat it as an affordable entertainment device rather than a replacement for a high-end home theatre setup.

Alternatives to Consider

  • WiMiUS P62 Pro Projector
  • XGIMI MoGo 3 Pro
  • Epson EpiqVision Flex CO-W01
  • Nebula Capsule 3

Conclusion — Would I Recommend It?

Yes… with some caveats. I think the Sovboi S61Pro is one of those products that can either pleasantly surprise you or leave you disappointed, depending entirely on your expectations.

If you’re expecting premium performance because you saw “4K” on the box, you’ll probably come away underwhelmed. But if you’re simply looking for an affordable projector for movie nights and casual streaming, it does a respectable job.

For me, it wasn’t perfect. But it was good enough that I kept using it.
