The Insta360 GO Ultra is one of those products that immediately makes you think: “Okay… this is actually really cool.” Tiny size. POV filming. Hands-free recording. Ridiculously portable.
And after using it, I completely understand why people online are obsessed with these little wearable cameras.
But I also think this is one of the clearest examples of a company making a genuinely impressive product while simultaneously making some incredibly annoying decisions around it.
Because while I mostly liked the camera itself… I definitely did not like feeling nickel-and-dimed afterward.

The Insta360 GO Ultra is a tiny wearable action camera designed for POV filming, travel clips, casual content creation, social media videos, and lightweight everyday recording.
The biggest selling point is obviously the size. This thing is tiny.
You can clip it onto clothing, wear it as a pendant, attach it magnetically, or use it in places where larger cameras feel awkward or annoying.
And yeah, that portability becomes addictive very quickly.
Why I Tried It
I originally bought it because I wanted something smaller and less intrusive than carrying a full camera, a phone gimbal, or a giant action camera everywhere.
I also liked the idea of capturing random moments without constantly holding a device in my hand. And to be fair, Insta360 absolutely nailed that part.
This camera makes casual filming feel effortless in a way that bigger cameras honestly don’t.
My Experience Using It
The first thing that impressed me was, honestly, the image quality relative to the size. For something this tiny, the footage looked surprisingly good.
Not cinema-camera amazing obviously. But definitely good enough for travel clips, POV moments, social content, and everyday memories. The stabilization was also genuinely one of my favorite parts.
Even when walking around casually, footage still came out smooth enough that I didn’t constantly feel like I was watching shaky chaos afterwards. And the form factor? Genuinely brilliant.
There’s something incredibly satisfying about wearing a camera so small that you almost forget it’s there. I also loved how spontaneous filming became.
Instead of thinking “Should I take my camera?” I could just clip this on and go. Now, unfortunately… this is where my frustration started.
Because I really wanted to fully love this camera. But as someone who actually spent real money on it instead of getting influencer freebies shipped in giant PR boxes, the mounting situation honestly feels ridiculous.
The biggest issue for me is that there’s no standard ¼-20 tripod mount directly built into the Action Pod.
And that becomes annoying fast. Because the moment you want to use a tripod, a GoPro mount, or basically any more serious setup, you suddenly realise you’re forced into Insta360’s proprietary accessory ecosystem.
And that ecosystem currently feels overpriced, limited, and weirdly unavailable. This became especially frustrating because many of the mounts and accessories were sold out when I needed them.
Meanwhile, every influencer online somehow already has every mount, every adapter, every accessory imaginable for free.
But actual paying customers at launch struggle to buy basic accessories needed for normal use. That honestly left a bad taste in my mouth. Yes, the box includes the magnetic pendant, a clip, and a safety cord. But realistically, those only cover basic casual usage.
The moment you want flexibility for real-world filming setups, you’re suddenly looking at another:
$50–$100+ in accessories.
And for a camera already sitting around premium pricing territory, I honestly think at least one tripod-ready mount should have been included. Because right now it feels like Insta360 designed the product beautifully… then forgot normal buyers actually need practical mounting solutions too.
The safety quick-release setup also annoyed me way more than expected. Getting that tiny cord through the microscopic holes genuinely took forever.
At one point I almost dropped the camera multiple times trying to attach it properly, which felt deeply ironic considering it’s supposed to be a safety attachment.
And that whole experience reinforced this weird feeling that Insta360 sometimes seems more focused on influencer marketing rather than everyday customer convenience.
Which is frustrating because the actual camera itself is genuinely impressive.
Build Quality & Feel
The camera itself honestly feels sleek, lightweight, and surprisingly premium for how tiny it is. The magnetic mounting concept also feels genuinely clever.
And despite the small size, the Action Pod still feels fairly solid overall. The accessories though? Some of them honestly feel overpriced for what they are.
Especially considering how necessary they become for more advanced setups.

Because once you move beyond casual pendant usage, the accessory limitations become impossible to ignore.
Is It a Scam?
No, I definitely wouldn’t call the Insta360 GO Ultra a scam. The camera itself is legitimately innovative and honestly very fun to use.
But I do think Insta360 deserves criticism for:
- aggressive accessory upselling
- lack of standard mounting options
- overpriced proprietary accessories
- and launch stock shortages for important add-ons.
Especially at this price point. Because premium buyers should not feel like they purchased an incomplete experience.
How to Use
I personally found this worked best for:
- travel
- casual POV moments
- walking clips
- quick social media content
- and situations where larger cameras feel annoying.
And honestly, once you stop expecting it to replace a full professional setup, it becomes much easier to appreciate what makes it special.

And that contradiction honestly sums up my entire experience perfectly… brilliant product idea, impressive execution and unnecessarily annoying accessory strategy.
If Insta360 fixed the mounting situation and treated paying customers with the same enthusiasm they treat influencers, this would honestly feel much easier to recommend without hesitation.
