I bought the Nu Finish Glass Restore & Repel Kit because I was tired of looking through water spots and haze every time I drove. The before-and-after photos made it seem like a realistic alternative to paying for professional glass polishing, and I honestly thought it would make a noticeable difference.
Instead, I spent far more time scrubbing than I expected, and when I finally stepped back to admire the results, I found myself wondering whether all that effort had been worth it.

What Is the Nu Finish Glass Restore & Repel Kit?
The Nu Finish Glass Restore & Repel Kit is a two-step system that claims to restore automotive glass by removing water spots, mineral deposits, road film, and other contaminants before applying a rain-repellent coating that’s supposed to improve visibility during wet weather.
On paper, it’s an attractive idea. Clean the glass, restore clarity, and leave behind a protective coating—all without paying for professional detailing.
Unfortunately, my experience never really matched that promise.
Why I Bought It
My windshield had accumulated years of stubborn water spots that ordinary glass cleaners couldn’t remove.
The marketing suggested this kit could restore clarity and make the glass look almost new again, so I figured it was worth trying before considering more expensive options.
I wasn’t expecting perfection… I was just expecting a noticeable transformation.
My Experience Using It
The first thing that surprised me was just how much work this kit required. I knew I’d have to polish the glass, but I wasn’t prepared for the amount of scrubbing involved. I found myself going over the same sections repeatedly because I kept expecting the water spots to disappear, yet many of them barely changed.
As I worked my way across the windshield, I kept convincing myself that maybe the dramatic improvement would only become obvious once I finished the entire process.
It never really did.
Yes, the glass looked cleaner than when I started. Loose grime and surface dirt were gone, but the stubborn mineral deposits and hazy patches that convinced me to buy the kit in the first place were still staring back at me. Some lighter spots faded slightly, but the older stains remained surprisingly visible.
The water-repellent coating worked reasonably well during the next rainfall, and I’ll happily give the product credit for that. Water beaded nicely and visibility improved somewhat at higher speeds.
But if I’m being completely honest, that wasn’t why I bought the kit. I bought it because I wanted the restore part of “Restore & Repel.”
Instead, it felt like I had spent a long afternoon polishing my windshield only to end up with something that looked maybe 20% better instead of dramatically restored.
For the amount of effort involved, the payoff simply wasn’t there.
Ease of Use
The instructions themselves are straightforward. The problem isn’t understanding what to do… It’s how much physical effort the job actually requires.
This isn’t a quick wipe-on, wipe-off product. It demands a lot of manual polishing, and even after all that work, I didn’t feel the results justified the time I invested.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- The rain-repellent coating works reasonably well
- Easy-to-follow instructions
- Removes loose dirt and light surface contamination
Cons
- Required far more scrubbing than I expected
- Made only a small improvement to stubborn water spots
- Didn’t restore the glass nearly as much as the advertising suggests
- Results felt underwhelming considering the effort involved
- Premium price for what ultimately felt like a fairly average outcome
- The “restore” part of the product was easily its biggest disappointment
Product Claims vs. Reality
Nu Finish promotes the kit as a way to restore glass clarity while adding long-lasting water repellency. The repellency was decent. The restoration… not so much.
The advertising gives the impression that stubborn water spots and years of buildup will disappear with a little polishing. My experience was completely different. Most of the defects I actually cared about remained visible, and the improvement was subtle enough that someone else probably wouldn’t even notice unless I pointed it out.
For me, the “restore” claim set expectations the product simply couldn’t meet.
Is It a Scam?
I wouldn’t call it a scam because the kit does contain legitimate polishing and water-repellent products. What I do think is that the marketing makes the restoration process look far more dramatic and effortless than it actually is.
If your windshield only has light contamination, you may be happy with the results.
If you’re buying this because your glass has years of stubborn mineral deposits or noticeable haze, I think there’s a good chance you’ll walk away as disappointed as I did.
By the end, it felt less like a restoration kit and more like an expensive glass cleaner with a decent rain-repellent treatment included.
Customer Feedback
After researching other buyers’ experiences, I realised my disappointment wasn’t unusual. Quite a few customers praised the water-beading effect but admitted they saw little improvement in stubborn water spots or etched mineral deposits. Others mentioned that the polishing process required far more effort than expected, only to produce fairly modest results.
There are certainly satisfied customers, particularly those using it on lightly contaminated glass. But among buyers hoping for a dramatic restoration, disappointment is a recurring theme.
That perfectly reflected my own experience.
Alternatives to Consider
- Cerium oxide glass polishing compounds
- Rain-X Glass Treatment (if water repellency is your main goal)
- Invisible Glass Glass Stripper
Conclusion — Would I Recommend It?
No… not if you’re buying it because you genuinely expect it to restore your windshield. That’s exactly why I bought it, and that’s exactly where I felt let down.
The rain-repellent coating was perfectly decent, but I can buy dedicated hydrophobic treatments for much less. The restoration, the feature that justified buying the entire kit, never came close to meeting my expectations.
When I finished the job, I didn’t feel impressed. I mostly felt tired. After all that polishing, I was still looking at many of the same water spots that had convinced me to buy the kit in the first place, and that’s ultimately why I wouldn’t purchase it again.
